Many of you have heard about the floods moving through northern Colorado right now. Group Publishing, headquarters of Simply Youth Ministry and Group Mission Trips, is right at the heart of this. Our building is currently in good shape and out of danger, but many homes, businesses and families all around us are in danger. Major roads are closing and school is canceled for students in surrounding areas. Below is a video that one of our very own, Jeff Storm, took of rushing waters near his home this morning.
While we are having to make do through the poor conditions, we also know that this is an opportunity to serve and make a difference in our community. We saw another dangerous flood like this back in 1977 when the Big Thompson River flooded causing much devastation to the local area. Instead of sitting by idly, Group decided to do something about it and rallied people to come alongside us and serve those affected by the flood destruction in the form of a recovery camp. This effort resulted in hundreds of students coming to serve their community in its time of need, and ultimately lead to the birth of Group Mission Trips. Check out the news release and t-shirt in the image on the right from the Colorado Flood Disaster Recovery camp years ago that we keep framed in our office as a reminder of how Group Mission Trips started.
In the aftermath of the current flood, Group Mission Trips will be working closely with our friends and partners in communities affected by the storm much like we did back in the 70′s with the Big Thompson flood. With your help, we will be serving people affected by the floods. Together, we may be able to help soon through Disaster Recovery events planned specifically to help those most in need. There will be opportunities to serve this fall and could extend into next summer as well.
Exact dates, details, and locations are not known for our Colorado flood relief efforts. If you’d like to receive information on how you can bring aid and encouragement to people in Colorado affected by the rains and floods, please email email@example.com. We will add your name to the list of people who will hear about these new service opportunities first.
Stay tuned for more updates and thank you for praying for Colorado during this challenging time!
