Random Randomness

- This weekend, my lesson was geared toward helping JH kids take a closer look at their “friendship circles” and begin to recognize that the closer people are to us, the greater their influence in our lives. Even though it was great content and fairly interactive, I just didn’t like it. Not enough humor, too long etc. Yet I had more students track me down to talk about the lesson after church than I have in a long, long time. A good reminder that the stuff I value in a lesson (humor, fun, short….) isn’t always what students value.

- In our program, we showed a short little testimony video from two boys in our ministry who, until recently, were not involved at all other than showing up most weekends. One of our leaders invited them to come to a meeting to help plan an outreach event, and it changed everything! The video was them pleading with other students to take a chance, get involved, find a way to serve, etc. It was simple, yet powerful.

- One of my guilty pleasure TV shows is The Celebrity Apprentice. I am a huge Donald Trump fan….which is odd, I know. I think it’s mostly because I’ve read a little bit here and there about his children and how sharp they are, how hard they’ve worked to get where they are, and how much they truly love and respect their dad. In a world of out of control trust-fund kids who have been handed everything, I guess I’m attracted to a family that seems to be trying to do it right….in a weird “Trump” sort of way!

- Later today, I’m driving 1.5 hours with a friend to introduce him to another friend who is a mobile app developer. My buddy has an idea that I think might actually pop. So I’m excited to hear him pitch it to the app developer team to hear their response.

- We are on the cusp of hiring somebody AMAZING as the Youth Pastor at our San Clemente (a small beach community about 30 minutes south) campus. If we hire this person, I’ll be sure to announce it because it’s a name you will recognize. Of course if it doesn’t work out, I’ll never let the secret out of the bag!
