Simple idea, BIG payoff. My birthday is in July, pretty close to Father’s Day. I wanted some new headphones so I bought them, handed them to my wife and said, “Look what my boys got me for Father’s Day!” It was an expensive gift so when my birthday came around I started thinking, “I hope she remembers the headphones and doesn’t get me anything.” Hanging with my family, and choosing any restaurant is one of our birthday traditions and that was enough in my mind.
My wife surprised me with one of the most thoughtful gifts I have ever received…prayer. On my birthday, before breakfast, my middle child came to me and said, “Dad, today is my day, I get to pray for you.” I thought, “That was sweet, he wants to pray for his dad and breakfast today.” After breakfast Keri said, “Now, I did not buy you anything for your birthday, I sort of made you something.” I had no idea what was coming. She said, “You heard our middle child say that he gets to pray for you today? That’s your gift. You turn 40 this year and I tracked down 40 men from your life, 40 men who have impacted you and who care for you. They will contact you, one at a time, everyday for the next 40 days.”
What a great gift, I love my wife! (I wonder what day Andy Stanley is calling?)
